          Email lists

I don't know what gets into people's minds sometimes. I really don't. I received an "interesting" email telling Gillis (my service dog) about a new email list for service dogs, and that I and a friend should not try to join. I run an email list called OT-Adogs (Owner Trained Assistance Dogs), and have run it for over two years. There have been people that I have removed from the OT-Adogs list because they broke the list rules more than once. Now there's a new list out that was started by those that I have removed... they have slandered me and my list on their list, and in private email to the listmembers of OT-Adogs. The list name is OT-Adogs4u, which right there, is a copyright violation. After having the list moderator send an email with edited emails from myself and one of my moderators to who knows how many people on the OT-Adogs list, I called Yahoo and complained. I'm now sending them information because the purpose of the list is stated in the list archives that the list was made because I'm "NOT NICE" and I don't care about anyone. That's far from the truth.

The OT-Adogs list is known for the true and factual legal information posted to the list. New members to the list are moderated (the messages they post are sent to the moderators for approval first) for one month to allow them to read the list and learn about how the laws protect them. The list has a strict rule about not attacking anyone and I take that rule very seriously. When someone posts something that isn't true in regards to disability law, the person is gently corrected, either in public, or their post is sent back to them stating why what they sent won't be posted. Now some people feel that because I "censor" my list, they need to make my list members aware of it. Censor my list? Yeah, right. I may not agree with everything that is posted to my list, but I sure don't delete or reject messages just because I don't agree with what the person wrote. I, myself, get corrected quite often by our "expert" in the ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act). I don't go sulk, or pout, I learn from my mistakes.

One of the things that amazes me, is that people complain about the OT-Adogs list (there's supposed to be an OT-Adogs underground), but my list is the largest internet email list for service dogs. If so many people had problems with it, users would be unsubscribing, and that's just not the case. I've been told many more times that people are glad the list is around as it's helped them immensely. This always makes me feel good, which is good, 'cause the bad comments really make me feel awful.

I've been told that the "crazies" that I've unsubscribed or banned from my list need a list to vent on, which is fine, but they can do it without a list name that will cause people to be confused about what list is what and they can do it without harvesting email addresses from my list to send interesting emails to.
