          ADA issues and wow!

I had gone to my local bank to deposit money, like I had explained on April 3rd. The bank machine is set high enough that you can't read the screen real well, and I had a terrible time trying to also withdraw money from it. Once in the bank, the table to write up your deposit or withdrawl was set for those STANDING, making it about chin height for someone in a wheelchair. The teller windows are the same. I complained to the manager about the ADA violations, and told them I wanted them to make changes in a week, or I would file an ADA lawsuit against the bank.

Normally, I do the same thing, and the business ignores me. Imagine my surprise when I went into the bank two days ago, and the manager came running up to me when I was trying to fill out my deposit slip and showed me the new desk they'd set up. The tellers will also service a disabled person there. They still have to wait in line, but they are directed to the lower table. I was told that the bank was sending me a letter, which I got yesterday, explaining that I had concerns, and that those concerns were being addressed. The bank is also in line to get a new bank machine.

Because of this treatment, this bank will get special mention on my webpage for fixing the ADA problems I pointed out to them. What happened to me makes it all worthwhile when I go into a business and see ADA violations and let the owners/management know.

          Housework

I've never been one to do housecleaning... there's stuff all over the floor here. I really need to get this place cleaned up. It's not a health hazard, just going around the piles is interesting. And there's bits of paper and wrappers here and there... kinda like you'd see in a teenager's room. One of the BAD things about my lack of housekeeping, is that I lose things very easily. I put something down, and then I can't find it again.

Now, the kitchen... it has empty bottles laying around, only because I can't get out to place the bottles where the DH can take them to recyling. Other than that, the kitchen is clean, except I really need to mop the floor. Now that tax season is almost ended, I can finally clean up the house, and hopefully KEEP it that way. That can be hard, when your husband also leaves stuff laying around *sigh* And he's got no excuse, as he's not disabled, just lazy. And when I complain to him about his behavior, he flings it back into my face, that I don't pick up after myself, either!

We also don't put clothes away - usually. Things that need to hang, get hung, but there's piles of folded clothes all over. Main reason is that's the bedroom is a MESS with books and such laying around the bed. *sigh* That's my first priority, to clean up the bedroom.

Don't look under my bathroom sink, tho. I tend to MISS the garbarge can under there, so there are all sorts of things under there. And my husband's bathroom, well, I can't get in there, but I looked in the door the other day, and his toilet is disgusting! I don't know how it got THAT bad, but he'll have to clean it himself.

I also only take showers twice a week or so... only because it's hard to get in and out of the shower. It doesn't take me long to shower, only 30 minutes or so, but getting in and out is a big bother. I do wash everyday, tho, at the sink... it just shocks some people when they learn I don't bathe every day. I don't smell and I don't look dirty, so what's the problem?

I just find it easier to bathe less, and do washing of face and such every day. I also use fingernail polish on my nails to hide the dirt under them that comes from using my wheelchair. No, I don't paint my nails so I don't have to clean under them, I paint them to hide the dirt that gets under them during the day because of my wheelchair. You would not believe how dirty your hands get, or how dirty it gets under your fingernails because of a wheelchair. Just one of those things I have to face 'cause I'm disabled.

I am starting to care more about my appearance, and the state of my house... I try to do too much, then when I'm exhausted, I wonder "What's the point?", so I don't continue. If I do an hour at a time, it may take me longer to clean the house, but I won't get so exhausted, and once it's clean, it should be easy to KEEP clean, I hope.
